Alice Lloyd Volleyball Hosts RSC Powerhouse Squads in Weekend Conference Series

Pippa Passes, KY: Over the weekend, the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles volleyball team had the unenviable task of facing the River States Conferences top two squads on back-to-back days. A tough job was made even tougher as the hosts were short-handed, playing with three starters out of action. On Friday, October 6th, the 18-3 (7-2 RSC) Saint Mary of the Woods (IN) Pomeroy's visited Pippa Passes, and on Saturday, October 7th, the NAIA's #18 ranked (19-3-10-0 RSC) Indiana University Kokomo Cougars made the journey. The hosts had a tough time of things as they would drop both contests in straight sets.

October 6th

SMWC-3; ALC-0

In set 1, the contest was tight early, and the Lady Eagles only trailed 14-10 at the midway point. However, the Lady Pomeroy's would roll off a 11-1 blitz to close things and take the 25-11 win.

In set 2, ALC came out with a quick 5-1 burst to take the lead, and only trailed 11-10 near the halfway mark. However, the Indiana club was able to make another steady run to take control, eventually pulling off the 25-16 victory.

In set 3, the hometown ladies would quickly fall behind 9-3 before rallying to get within four (16-12). Unfortunately, from that juncture, four Eagle errors turned the tide, and the visitors closed the night by scoring nine consecutive points to seal the deal and take the match, 25-12.

For the contest, the Indiana squad would hold a big advantage in kills, 40-9, and achieve 6 service aces. They also controlled the assists, 38-9. Individually for Alice Lloyd, Kristen Isaac led ALC (2-18; 0-10 RSC) in assists, as she tallied all 9. Brooklyn Cheek led the club with 4 kills, while TK Ellis added 3. Cheek and Ellis also led in blocks, each with 2. Tianna Wesley and Gracie Gibson registered 9 and 6 assists respectively, while Ellis and Taylor Hamilton each provided a service ace.

The opening game saw IUE explode out of the gate. They would deliver 15 big kills overall on their way to a commanding 25-8 victory.

In set 2, the shorthanded Pippa Passes ladies battled hard. However, the Cougars unleashed the unreal total of 18 kills during the game, and they pulled away to earn the victory, 25-12.

In set 3, the Hoosier squad was determined not to go to a fourth set, and they jumped out to a quick lead. Once again, IUK was impressive in the kill department as they unloaded 15 more. The final kill of the match would close out the contest, 25-12.
