
Alice Lloyd Volleyball Takes to the Road for Two Conference Games
The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles volleyball team took to the road on Friday October 13th and Saturday, October 14th for two conference matchups. On Friday, the opponent was the Brescia Lady Bearcats while on Saturday, the Oakland City Mighty Oaks would provide the opposition. Once the dust had settled, the hosts would find themselves with two victories.
October 13th
Brescia-3; ALC-0
The first matchup was played in Owensboro, (KY). In set 1, the home club quickly doubled-up the score. Later, leading 13-6, they would roll out a 9-2 burst to pull ahead even more. BU would eventually take the opener, 25-11.
In set 2, Brescia would use 3 kills and 3 service aces to sprint ahead, 6-0. The Lady Eagles would try to reduce the deficit yet again and would get within 7 (21-14). Unfortunately, a motivated home club would finish the set strong, and nab the win, 25-16.
In set 3, the Bearcats were able to gain some separation early, but the Caney Creek club rallied to shrink the deficit to just one (13-12). However, over the next few vital minutes, BU would regain the momentum.
Once more, the Lady Eagles refused to go down easy, and slowly clawed their way back to within three (21-18) at crunch time. Unfortunately, the Pippa Passes squad ran out of steam, which enabled the Bearcats (2-18; 1-10 RSC to finally close out the match with a 25-20 victory.
For the match, Kristen Isaac led ALC (2-19; 0-11 RSC) with 9 assists, while Taylor Hamilton chipped in with 5. TK Ellis produced 6 kills and teammates Brooklyn Cheek and Natalie Waddle both registered 5 more. Ellis gave her club 13 digs, while Caroline Parsons produced 12 more. In addition, Kyleah Ward came through with a pair of service aces and Waddell recorded 2 blocks.
October 14th
Oakland City-3; ALC- 0
The second matchup was played in Oakland City, (IN) against one of the divisions strongest squads. In set 1, the home club quickly roared out to a 15-2 advantage. They would keep the engine running at full throttle enroute to the 25-7 win.
In set 2, the Eagles would keep thing close early, and they only trailed, 11-8. Unfortunately, Oakland would use 5 consecutive kills in a 9-1 scoring frenzy to gain separation. The hosts would remain in control from there on their way to a 25-12 victory.
In set 3, ALC hoped to put their best foot forward, as they desperately wanted to avoid a sweep. The Mighty Oaks would make a run to pull ahead, 15-9 and force an Eagle timeout. After the timeout, the Pippa Passes squad regrouped to unleash a 7-1 run. Now, they only trailed, 17-16.
Disappointingly, the Indiana squad saw enough, proceeding to unload 7 kills to close the game on an 8-2 run. This allowed the Oakes (11-7; 9-3 RSC) to finish out the match with their 25-18 victory.
For the match, Isaac led ALC (2-20; 0-12 RSC) with 8 assists, while Cheek and Ward both registered 5 kills. Parsons produced 12 assists while Ellis reached double-digits with 10. In addition, Waddell and Ward recorded the two lone blocks, while three Eagles came through with a service ace apiece.
