Alice Lloyd Volleyball plays twice in Hoosier State
The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles volleyball team visited the Hoosier State on Friday October 20th and Saturday, October 21st for two conference matchups. On Friday, the opponent was the eastern divisions top-seeded Indiana University East Red Wolves (20-6; 12-1 RSC) while on Saturday, the conferences newest opponent, the Indiana University Columbus Crimson Pride (6-12; 3-11) served as host. After both contests were over, the home club would end up on the winning side with two victories.
October 20th
IU East-3; ALC-0
The first matchup was played in Richmond (IN). In set 1, the home club quickly showed why they are a serious contender to take the title as they roared out of the gate with a devastating 14-1 blitz. They would cruise the remainder of the way and earn the 25-3 victory.
In set 2, a determined ALC club would play their best ball, jumping out to a 7-3 lead. IUE would then produce a quick 6-0 run to leap ahead 9-7 and force a timeout from the Lady Eagles. The Pippa Passes girls would answer with 3 quick points of their own to regain the advantage (10-9). However, East would show their explosiveness once more and produce a big 7-1 burst to forge ahead, 16-11. From there, the home squad would maintain their edge, enroute to a 25-17 win.
In set 3, the Caney Creek crew would hang around in the early part of the game, and only trail 11-8. Unfortunately, East would reel off a 7-3 run which gave them some separation (18-11). They would keep their cushion the remainder of the night, and eventually seal the match with a 25-15 victory.
For the event, Taylor Hamilton and Kristen Isaac led ALC (2-22; 0-14 RSC) with 7 and 6 assists respectively, while Natalie Waddle paced the club with 5 kills. Caroline Parsons was the leader in digs once again, as she racked up 12. In addition, Issac had 2 aces while Kyleah Ward came through with the lone block for her club.
October 21st
IU Columbus-3; ALC- 0
The second matchup was played in Columbus, (IN). The Lady Eagles put up a good effort before falling short.
In set 1, the home club quickly roared out to a 11-3 lead and looked poised for the easy win. However, fueled by a combination of Crimson Pride miscues, and several kills from ALC, the Kentucky squad fought back. The Lady Eagles rolled off their own 11-3 blitz, and tied the game at 14-14.
From that juncture, the squads traded points. Finally, with Columbus nursing a 22-19 lead, they would close 3-1 to take the game, 25-20.
In set 2, IUC would creep out to a 12-6 lead. From there the squads would basically trade points, which prevented the visitors from getting any closer. The hosts would eventually earn the victory, 25-17.
In set 3, ALC came out well. The squads traded scores once more, and the score read 7-7. Later, with the Hoosier club clinging to a small 17-15 advantage, the Caney Creek hopes were dealt a huge blow when Indiana pulled off a crucial 4-0 run to gain some separation (21-15). From there, they would close the contest with several kills, and end the night on top, 25-17.
For the match, Isaac and Hamilton led ALC (2-23; 0-15 RSC) with 8 and 6 assists respectively, while Ward (9) and Lakyn Porter (6) provided the bulk of the kills. Parsons produced 10 assists, while Ellis finished just behind with 8. In addition, Hamilton and Ellis each smacked a service ace, but the squad had no blocks.
The Lady Eagles return home on Wednesday, October 25th, when they face the Pikeville Lady Bears at 7:30pm.
