Alice Lloyd Volleyball hosts Ohio Christian University in RSC play

Pippa Passes, KY: On Friday, October 27th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team welcomed River States Conference foe Ohio Christian University. After a tough first game, the hosts settled down and put up a fight. Unfortunately, the Lady Trailblazers still managed to pull out the 3-0 win.

In set 1, as they have done numerous times, ALC played well early. However, with the scoreboard showing 8-8, OCU would roll off a massive 17-4 run. This enabled them to take the opener, 25-12.

In set 2, the match was knotted at 10-10 before the Trailblazers gained some separation with a 6-1 burst to go up 16-11. A few plays later, and still trailing 19-14, the Lady Eagles responded. Kyleah Ward would power three big kills to fuel a 5-0 run. Suddenly, the game was tied 19-19.

From there, the squads exchanged shots. In crunch time, with the Buckeye squad clinging to a 23-22 lead, a critical kill by the visitors, followed by an ALC error, would be enough to hand Ohio Christian the game, 25-22.

In set 3, ALC came out and exchanged points with their opponents early, only to see the Trailblazers uncork a run that propelled them to a big 19-9 advantage. To their credit, the Pippa Passes team refused to roll over and battled hard to reduce the deficit. Unfortunately, the hole was just a little too deep to climb out of, and the visitors finally were able to seal the match, 25-20.

On the day for the Caney Creek club,  Kristen Issac led ALC in assists with 10, while Caroline Parsons and Taylor Hamilton both added 8.  Kyleah Ward and Brooklyn Cheek were solid in kills, contributing 9 and 8, respectively, while TK Ellis chipped in 6 of her own. Ellis also led the way with 10 digs and was backed by Tianna Wesley with 8. Natalie Waddle came through with 3 service aces for the squad.

The Lady Eagles return to the court tomorrow to host a tri-match with a duo of NCCAA clubs. First, at high noon, they will face the Boyce College Bulldogs. Then, after a break, they will play the Appalachian Bible College Warriors in a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
