
Alice Lloyd Volleyball Opens Season with Quartet of Matches in Indiana
Saint Mary of the Woods, IN: The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles (0-4) volleyball team took to the road on August 30th and 31st to open the season on a four-game swing in Indiana. The matches took place at the Saint Mary of the Woods Showdown in the Woods Invite. Below are recaps of each challenging contest.
August 30th
Game 1
Governors State (IL)-3, ALC-1
ALC began play on Friday by facing Governors State University, Illinois. The Kentucky squad battled hard before dropping a 3-1 decision.
In the opener, the two squads battled point for point. Then, with the contest knotted at 15-15, the Pippa Passes crew would close with a nice 10-4 run to take the game, 25-19.
Game 2 started the same way as the clubs traded points. However, with the scoreboard reading 18-18, The Jaguars rolled off a quick 7-3 burst to take the game 25-21.
In Game 3, the Illinois squad looked strong. They pulled away from a 12-7 lead to win in solid fashion, 25-14.
In Game 4, Governors State (2-3) put the contest away. Nursing a small 12-9 lead, they proceeded to close with a big 13-4 blitz and seal the deal, 25-13.
For the match, GS led in small amounts in kills (50-37), service aces (11-7), assists (46-37) and digs (35-33). ALC's Kyleah Ward and Natalie Waddell led in kills with 13 and 9, respectively. Rose Scotello handed out 27 assists, while Camryn Thompson led the way with 12 digs. Gracie Gibson and TK Ellis chipped in with 3 and 2 service aces.
Game 2
Goshen (IN)-3, ALC-1
ALC concluded Friday's action against Goshen, Indiana. After a battle with the Bluegrass crew, the Hoosier club won in straight sets.
In the opener, the Maple Leafs (6-8) held a slight 13-10 lead. They then closed on a massive 12-3 burst to take the game, 25-13.
Game 2 saw the Kentucky ladies battle back. as the clubs traded scores in an entertaining bit of play. Unfortunately, clinging to a 23-22 advantage, Goshen produced the final pair of scores to win, 25-22.
In Game 3, the Hoosier team looked to end things. After pulling out to a 15-12 lead, they closed out the day 10-4 to clinch the contest, 25-16.
For the match, Goshen led in kills (26-15), service aces (9-3), assists (26-15) and digs (21-13). ALC's Scotello and Ellis both had 3 kills, while Taylor Hamilton led in assists with 8. Camryn Thompson led the way with 4 digs, while Scotello, Ellis, and Hamilton each recorded 1 service ace.

Game 3
Lourdes (OH)-3, ALC-1
ALC opened Saturday play against Lourdes University Ohio (2-1). The Gray Wolves would take the decision in straight sets.
In Game 1, the Buckeye team quickly doubled the score to 16-8 en route to a big 25-11 win.
Game 2 saw the Gray Wolves pull ahead early, then slowly extend their cushion and take a 25-14 victory.
The Kentucky club fought hard in Game 3 as they attempted a miraculous comeback. With the score reading 15-13, they still had hope. However, Lourdes decided to end things and managed to close the match out by snagging a 25-18 victory.
On the day, LU led in kills (36-19), service aces (11-1), assists (35-19) and digs (55-45). ALC's Ward provided 9 kills, while Scotello handed out 13 assists. Gibson (12) and Ellis (10) were the digs leaders, and Thompson recorded the lone service ace.
Game 4
Clarke (IOWA)-3, ALC-0
ALC concluded action against Clarke, Iowa. The Hawkeye State club would play well in earning the sweep.
In the opener, the Pride came ready for action as they roared out of the gates on a 16-6 run. After a Lady Eagle timeout, they would look much better but could not overcome the deficit before falling 25-14
Game 2 saw the Pippa Passes posse come out of the huddle and battle furiously. Then, trailing 19-14, ALC promptly ran off a 7-3 burst to set the score at 22-21. Disappointingly, Clarke regrouped and delivered a trio of scores to end the game, 25-21
In Game 3, the Iowa club was determined to end the drama, and they promptly roared out of the huddle, unleashing an 18-3 blitzkrieg. They would end the contest with an impressive 25-8 victory.
For the match, Clarke (5-2) led in kills (37-18), service aces (6-2), assists (36-18) and digs (47-35). ALC's Ward (6) and Ellis (4) led in kills, while Scotello delivered 10 assists. Gibson and Jadyn Hall came through with 10 and 8 digs. Akira Keathley recorded both service aces.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Thursday, September 5th, when they play host to Crown College (TN).
