Alice Lloyd Eagles Volleyball plays two in West Virginia

Beckley, WV: On October 5th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles journeyed to the Mountaineer state to tussle with the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears and the Appalachian Bible Lady Warriors. When the smoke had cleared, ALC had earned a split for their efforts.

Match 1

WVT-3; ALC-0

The first matchup was against WV Tech (8-10; 4-2 RSC) in River States Conference volleyball action. The Eagles dropped the match in straight sets.

 In the opener, the Bluegrass ladies would lead early, 7-6, only to see Tech roll out a 10-2 burst to suddenly lead,16-9. From there, they would pull away for the 25-13 win.

Game 2 started out very similar, as ALC only trailed 10-7. From that point, WVT uncorked a 9-2 spurt to lead, 19-9. They would maintain that advantage on their way to the 25-15 win.

In Game 3, the Kentucky crew hung tough, only trailing 15-12. However, the home squad would hang on with a 10-6 run to win 25-18, and bring home the match victory.

For the contest, Jadyn Hall led with 18 kills, while Taylor Hamilton and Rose Scotello delivered 10 and 7 assists. Scotello came through with a pair of service aces, and Gracie Gibson and Hall led the way with 12 and 8 digs respectively.

Match 2

ALC-3; ABC-1

In the opener, the West Virginia club hung tough as the score was knotted at 14-14. However, ALC used an 8-2 burst to gain some separation before winning, 25-17.

 Set 2 saw the visitors jump ahead quickly and extend it to a big 20-9 cushion. They would cruise on from there to earn the 25-17 win.

 In set 3, the two squads battled point-for-point as both desperately wanted the "W". The Kentucky crew led 19-18, before watching Appalachia Bible unload five kills during a decisive 7-2 run, and take the game, 25-21.

 Game 4 saw a determined group of Lady Warriors who were focused on tying the festivities. Playing some of their best ball, the Mountaineer squad would see the scoreboard locked at 12-12. Thankfully for the Pippa Passes contingency, the Bluegrass ladies would turn the tables and explode with a massive 13-1 blitzkrieg. This run sealed the deal on the match, 25-13.

 On the day, ALC's Kyleigh Ward delivered in a major way with 18 kills, and Taylor Cox and Scotello dished out 20 and 14 assists. Scotello, Gibson and Hall took care of the digs (17,16,,16), while Gibson, Hall and Taylor Cox tied with 2 service aces apiece.
