Alice Lloyd Eagles Baseball falls at Bluefield, Virginia

Bluefield, VA: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles (19-13) journeyed to Bluefield, Virginia to battle the host Rams (18-19) in a single game matchup. The home team broke the contest wide open in the middle innings to earn a 12-4 victory.

Bluefield opened the game with a big first inning, using a quartet of singles to gain a quick 4-0 lead.

In the Eagle second, a Carson Tate (2B) double and Jayden Huff (LF) single plated a run, 4-1. Then in the Caney Creek third, singles from Diego Rodriguez (SS) and Aaron Rothballer (DH), sandwiched around a Cole Bishop (C) double, led to a pair of runs (4-3).

 The Bluegrass boys would then knot the score in the top of the fourth, fueled by a Colton Lavelace (3B) double. Now the scoreboard read 4-4. Unfortunately, the momentum would shortly change.

In the bottom half of the same inning, the Rams laid out a double and pair of singles to produce a trio of runs, 7-4. Thay followed that up in the fifth, by using a single, Eagle error, and 3 walks to gain 3 scores and move ahead 10-4.

Finally, in the sixth, the Virginia club knocked a double and single, which set the final score at 12-4 for the hosts.

 At the plate, Huff led the team with 2 hits, and was joined by Bishop, Rothballer, and Rodriguez, each with a RBI.

Ryan Grubbs started on the mound for ALC and was credited with the loss. He allowed 7 earned runs on 6 hits in 3 innings of work. He was relieved by Tyler Brammer (1 inning, 2 hits, 2 runs), Karsten Dixon (3 innings, 2 hits, 2 earned runs) and Drake Cole (1 inning, 1 hit, 0 earned runs).

The Eagles were outhit 11-9, and committed the matches only 2 errors.
